Description: This class is all about becoming more confident with color. We’ll learn technical terms, discussing the difference between color, hue, pigment, dye, and paint, and we’ll talk about primary, secondary, analogous, tertiary and complementary colors. In early class sessions, we'll begin by using a limited color palette and we’ll focus on creating various abstract, low stakes exercises. In later sessions, we’ll focus on simple still life studies and abstracted landscapes. We’ll discuss the importance of knowing specific pigments in paints, and we’ll learn how to make mixing decisions based on these pigments. If you’ve ever struggled with mixing muddy colors, this 6-session class is for you. Students will receive detailed weekly handouts with terms and explanations, as well as optional homework assignments. We’ll also look at and discuss the art of a variety of artists, for inspiration, context, and to hone our observational skills.
